Another option is Hockey Hands. I represent the product here in Minnesota. I know they haven't broke into the Canadian market yet but for you hockey players here in the U.S. it's the perfect solution to smelly, bacteria infested gloves. "The solution helps remove the bacteria and smell caused by hockey gloves and skates while also leaving your hands and feet smelling minty fresh. Hockey Hands has a 99.99% efficacy rate of killing even the most harmful bacteria found on hockey equipment including Staph A (Staphylococcal Aureus) and MRSA (Methicillin resistant staphylococcus aureus)." Check it out at www.hockeyisourgame.com

I've had to experience it a few times. It does leave a sour taste in your mouth as you can't help but think that judgment is being passed upon you and wonder if your skills and experience are being put to question.

Despite the subtle dampening psychological effects of it, you have to view it as an opportunity to recoup your mental capacities and regain your composer and full focus. Start from scratch, erase the not so distant embarrassment and play on.

Good days, bad days...shit happens.

Although the majority of forwards swear by these composite sticks, they have their down sides. For one, the constant possibility of one blowing up on you at a critical time (on a one timer, or wrister, or hard pass), and not to mention the risk they impose on us goalies, sheesh! At $100-$200 a pop, no thanks...wood is better IMO.

I wait for the day we goalies have full composite leg pads and can return the favor on you crazy forwards...ha ha ha!

I have created a liquid soap that eliminates the odour causing bacteria that creates that horrific smell that you get from wearing hockey gloves. After using this soap you'll notice that your hands don't smell several hours after showering, and especially not the next day (the smell is not masked by a perfume either). I am selling it under the brand name 'Hockey Suds'. Once you try it you won't be able to live without it (and neither will your friends or family)!

Well said, Glen. It's amazing how many beer league games get out of hand because of one guy on the ice bugging the shit out of the other teams' players. Teams often pick up a guy when they are short, or are given a guy who just doesn't care about the others on the ice. It's Friday night, Division 18 men's league hockey - you're not exactly trying out for the NHL, so keep your crap hockey to yourselves.

Since my previous post was successful, i'd like now to offer the respects of everyone in the Topeka league for Bob Owen. Bob was a long-time resident of Topeka and was very influential in getting hockey started in our fair city. Bob was also a member of the 1960 US Gold Medal hockey team. Bob died last last week, and all of our local hockey community will miss him greatly.

Our beer league originally named our championship trophy for Bob 4 years ago. Sadly, it is now a memorial trophy. If anyone can let me know how, i'll gladly upload a picture of the Bob Owen Memorial Championship Cup.

Ah yes, the skate of shame. It's the one thing in hockey that nobody ever talks about. At one time or another we've all been there. On the other hand, victory would never be so sweet without a little shame now and again.

"The Skate of Shame" perfect name for it! Great article. Although I don't know why the goalie's take it so personally. During a pick-up game all the skaters know when the teams are lopsided and don't blame the goalie, nor care. Usually the "switch" takes place just to give the other goalie a chance to see a few pucks. Oh, the fragile psyche of a goalie.
